Trends in Production Engineering (a Unite! Joint Lecture)

This module is a Unite! lecture offered by the Technical University of Darmstadt, the Instituto Politécnico Nacional de Grenoble (Grenoble INP), and the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), as well as other Unite! members. This semester, the lectures will be held in a hybrid format. The course videos will be uploaded to Moodle. The lectures are also suitable for exchange students.

Content

Aims This digital “European lecture” deals with development trends in production engineering and production management, focusing on current research topics from production institutes in the Unite! network of leading technical universities in the EU: resilience, circular economy, additive manufacturing, AI in production, cyber-physical systems, social responsibility in production, etc.
Contents On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:

  1. Recognize and discuss differences in approaches in the field of production research from different countries and universities.
  2. Discuss current research projects and future-oriented technologies in the field of production. Changing, yearly updated topics will be considered. The focus is on the following areas:

    - Resilience
    - Circular economy
    - Additive manufacturing
    - AI in production
    - Cyber-physical systems
    - Social responsibility in production

  3. As an interdisciplinary discipline, to be able to consider both management and technical aspects in production research and to recognize interrelationships.
  4. Explain current developments.
  5. Evaluate possibilities and limitations of distinct approaches.
