The increasing share of fluctuating power generators poses new challenges for an affordable and stable power supply. Production plants and entire industrial processes contain unused potentials for energy flexibility. By upgrading the corresponding production processes and facilities, system-relevant ancillary services can be provided cost-effectively on a large scale. In addition to shifting loads, the PHI-Factory project is investigating measures to improve power quality and the integration of decentralized generation and storage systems into energy management. The central research objective of the project is to develop technical and organizational solutions with which industrial companies can simultaneously save energy costs and support the power grid as an active control element. The developed solutions will be integrated and experimentally tested in the ETA Research Factory at the Campus Lichtwiese of TU Darmstadt.
