Controlling energy demand in manufacturing and increasing energy efficiency through automation

The ECOMATION research group set itself the goal of reducing the energy consumption of machine tools through control technology measures and thus further increasing the energy efficiency of machine tools. Ideally, the power consumption can be reduced to the pure power requirement needed for the manufacturing process, without disregarding the common target variables such as quality, productivity, safety, etc.

Overall, the research group was able to achieve a saving of 16 % of the energy consumption in a reference scenario. Furthermore, it has been shown that further significant savings potentials can probably be achieved by optimising interactions between optimisers.
