Initial situation

Companies are facing the challenge to gradually optimise their production towards climate neutrality. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) face similar challenges as large companies but are usually unable to set up specialised departments for such issues as energy management or sustainability, among other things due to limited personnel capacity. In addition to a lack of personnel capacity, there is thus often a lack of the relevant competencies to systematically pursue the goal of climate neutrality, as well as a lack of opportunities to develop these competencies.

Objective

To pursue the highly environmentally relevant, socially aspired and politically set goal of climate neutrality also in the production of SMEs, there is need for targeted support in the development of competencies in SMEs in this subject area. The project Competencies for climate-neutral production contributes to supporting SMEs in acquiring the necessary competencies.

Approach

Within the scope of the one-year project, the necessary specific competencies in the company for the development of climate-neutral production will be systematically derived and defined. Furthermore, ways to transfer these competencies into practice will be presented. Sub-steps include the analysis of the necessary competencies of SMEs and their current availability as well as the development of a maturity model to assess the competence status of SMEs. Based on a competence table, starting points for targeted competence development are identified. Building on this, the learning content is developed for implementation in SMEs. Finally, the learning contents are piloted and prepared in a way that they can also be adapted to other educational locations and learning factories.
