Exciting Milestone for our PTW Tutorial

We've just wrapped up our winter semester PTW Tutorial on Software Engineering and Machine Learning in Manufacturing. A big milestone this year: For the first time in the course, students got hands-on experience with real CNC machines!

Within the practical part of the tutorial, students applied their new knowledge and developed an ML-based tool condition monitoring application on two brand new 3-Axis CNC machines in our Flow Factory building. The students worked in teams to acquire accelerometer data from sensors, train their models and validate them after deployment during live machining.

This practical approach bridged theory and real-world application, with the goal of offering a unique learning experience. We are looking forward to the next iteration in the winter semester 2024/2025.
