Since the winter semester 2024/2025, Dr.-Ing. Fuhrländer-Völker has been contributing to the newly introduced lecture series Fundamentals and Applications of Digital Twins , organized by Prof. Benjamin Schleich, head of the Product Life Cycle Management (PLCM) department. In his lecture, Dr.-Ing. Fuhrländer-Völker explores the digital twin as a key enabler of sustainable industrial transformation. Using the example of energy-intensive production systems such as industrial cleaning machines, he demonstrates how linking physical processes with digital models can both increase energy efficiency and improve the integration of renewable energy into production systems. The aim of the lecture is to provide students with a hands-on understanding of how digital twins can be applied in the context of sustainability, flexibility, and Industry 4.0.
