Aims The lecture gives an overview of the approaches to automation in manufacturing. First of all, the prerequisites for automation, but also the economic framework conditions are presented. The main contents are:

  • Introduction to automation technology
  • Industry 4.0 in the context of networking and data acquisition within production engineering systems
  • Modern, industrial communication within OT and IT (OT=Operational Technology and IT=Informationtechnology)
  • Current developments in Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT)
  • Modern bus systems and their protocols, sensor technology in automation
  • Handling and assembly in industrial production
  • Industrial robots and their application areas in automation technology
