Machine Tools and Industrial Robots
Modern machine tools are complex mechatronicy systems. In addition to classic mechanical issues like static and dynamic stiffness, electrical and information technology research topics are becoming more important. Sensors which are already present in a large number of components in the machine are used for permanent recording of the machine’s status. Combining several machines and condition monitoring serve as a basis for further research topics such as predictive maintenance.
The research group “Machine tools and components” (WK) focuses not only on the classic machine tool and individual machine components but also on tool-carrying industrial robots for machining. The four main research areas “Alternative materials”, “Mechatronic systems and digitization”, “Motor spindle systems” and “Machining with industrial robots” address current issues of industry that are dealt with in joint projects, working groups and also direct industrial projects.
