Center for industrial Productivity

The process learning factory CiP is an innovative educational center launched in May 2007 which imparts knowledge of the most important methods for designing efficient production processes.
Since then more than 4.000 students and 2.000 industrial employees have been trained. The knowledge is transferred from trainers to trainees by realising the whole value chain of a real industrial enterprise – starting with the inbound raw material process all the way through to packaging and shipping of finished goods.

Besides operating and further developing the process learning factory, the CiP-team deals with various research questions regarding different aspects of lean production. In this context the matter of digitalisation of production processes continuously gains in importance and numerous use cases on Industry 4.0 have been implemented within the process learning factory. From March 2016 the process learning factory CiP represents the core of the Mittelstand 4.0 Competence Center Darmstadt and prepares small and medium-sized enterprises for the challenges of digitalisation.
Furthermore the research group supports several industrial companies on-site in coping with day-to-day challenges. Typical tasks are supervision of pilot-projects for lean production in machining, assembly or internal logistics, on-site workshops in selected topics or coaching of employees, e.g. for implementing a shop floor management system.
